Sail plan changes, boat alterations, original design flaws and age related shrinking and distortion can all serve to literally take the wind out of your sails and over time your sails can lose their performance. However getting your sails back to what they once were needn’t be a long drawn out process that demands seriously expensive and extensive repairs.

Recuts that boost boat performance

Re-cuts upon sails that are slightly out of shape can rejuvenate and reinvigorate your sail, and are particularly effective when worked upon sails that are in otherwise good condition. In fact the SO31 team routinely recut sails that provide for extra years of use and save the expensive cost of a new sail. Our sail makers can advise you, up front, whether this could be the case with your sails and if so how much the recut would be. What’s more with pricing that is set in stone you can look forward to picking up your sails without any nasty (and costly) surprises. The team can also advise you upon any rig changes that may help in making the most out of your newly recut sail.

Not quite ready for a recut?

One of our sail makers could examine and measure your sail and recommend some rig and trimming changes that can help you get the most out of it right now.

Alterations

Alterations can similarly provide for a boosted lifespan for your sail and can transform it into either something that is more usable or simply ensure that your sail better fits your boat, making for a better performance and a smoother sail. Alterations that the SO31 team commonly undertake include adding or removing hardware, adding reefs, altering battens and adding overhead leech lines – in fact there’s not much that the team can’t undertake. If it’s something that comes with a new sail, they can add or alter it to suit your old sail.

Bought a second hand sail?

It’s rare a used sail fits a new boat without alterations. Our quality focused sail makers can make sure that your new sail fits your boat perfectly and you get the most out of your investment.
